Studio20 published: Qualities a camgirl should have
Novice • 5099 hits camgirl advice

Anyone can be a cam girl, but not anyone can be a successful one. You will need to put in a lot of effort, to invest in yourself, to work hard. You have to have certain qualities, or develop the ones that are not innate. The qualities a camgirl should have are both physical and psychological. A camgirl cannot be successful is she doesn't possess both, as a bad personality can ruin even the image of someone who looks perfect and, the loveliest of camgirls won't do much if she doesn't also take care of her appearance. Physical appearance and image are vital for a camgirl. Important physical qualities a camgirl should have are written below.

  • Impeccable body hygiene. A model has to take perfect care of herself. She has to be shaved to perfection, always, no hairs out of place, perfectly clean and smooth, no dirt underneath nails. The camera is unforgiving and the lights in the rooms are quite powerful. There will be a lot of zooming, and any sort of negligence will be instantly noticed. Body hair especially can be very visible, and a cam model should always remember that.
  • Clean, styled, well-maintained hair. A successful camgirl can't go online with her hair looking bad. There's always the option of having artfully messy hair, or a looser, casual style, but it has to still look good, even when going for a more natural look. If a model dyes their hair, she should touch it up regularly, not letting roots show for too long.
  • Perfect manicure and pedicure. A camgirl should absolutely not go online without her nails looking good. Go to a salon, ask a friend who knows what they're doing, but you simply cannot neglect your nails. They don't have to necessarily be long, since not everyone can stand that, but they should be well groomed and painted.
  • Make-up. Obviously, as a camgirl, you can't go online without any good make-up. The lights in the rooms are quite harsh, and if you don't know what to do they will wash you out. The make-up on camera should be stronger than what you would normally wear outside. Even if you don't like very strong make-up, a professional looking one will go a long way.
  • Sexy, creative, diverse outfits. The outfit on camera have to usually be glam, good looking, and should fit your style. Good quality lingerie, a leather skirt, a lovely, sexy dress that shows off cleavage or legs, and, of course, high-heels. Accessories can help a simpler outfit, and a successful cam girl knows this. Make sure to buy different types of jewelry to suit your needs.
  • A well-toned physique. Of course, diverse body types do have success in camming. However, muscles, a firm ass and thighs, a toned physique will all create a better image. You don't have to be stick-thin, but you do have to look like you're making an effort to maintain your appearance. Go to the gym regularly, maintain a healthy life-style, take care of yourself.

The physical is important, but it's not the only aspect a model should think about. Psychologically speaking, there are traits one needs in order to achieve success in the camming industry.

  • Resilient. It's not an easy job, and it can get very tiring to stay on camera and always be active, engage with the members. You will have to deal with all sorts of people, and you will have plenty of help with that, but you still have to get used to it, and not let everything affect you, and, with support, be able to recover from any bad moods caused by whatever is happening online.
  • Ambitious. Money won't just start raining on you immediately after you log in. You need to be motivated and to work really hard in order to make that happen. Furthermore, you'll have to be patient, and understand that it takes time to reach the top of the top.
  • Sociable. This one should be obvious. If you don't like interacting with people, or you prefer being alone, then this job is not for you. Being a camgirl requires good social skills. Those can be learned, of course, but you also have to be a bit sociable by nature, enjoy interacting with people from very diverse backgrounds and know how to handle them.
  • Open-minded. Aside from the fact that you'll meet members with a lot of tastes in different things, some that you might have not heard of, there is also a lot to learn in how to be a model. There's a lot of advice you can get from older, more experienced cam girls and from trainers, and if you're not willing to learn, you won't make it that far in this industry.
  • Flexible. Flexibility is very important in this industry. You have to, of course, still be yourself in a way, but you also have to be willing to change, to adapt your image and conversation on camera. Furthermore, you'll have to learn to leave your problems at the door, and separate your personal life from your camera life.
  • Disciplined. Perhaps the most important one. Think about the fact that this is a job like any other. You have to respect a schedule, work hard, get involved in your job, respect everyone, listen to advice. These are all qualities a camgirl should have in order to achieve success. Develop, grow, work on yourself, and you'll surely have a successful career as a camgirl.

Very useful article!

That's funny on the make up, I never worn make-up on cam. or if I do it's very rare.
I completely disagree with this. I go on cam with wet hair from shower shows, I go on cam with hardly any make up, I've seen cam girls who are exceptionally curvy. I never get a manicure unless one of my clients pay for it. Honestly I find this article insulting and sexist. You make me sick.
A huge BULSHIT!!!
Oh, okay. You're a 41-year-old male running a studio, not a camgirl. Interesting.

We don't need gatekeepers in this industry, thanks. Ultimately this is just a description of how YOU think things should be, and what the essentials and priorities are for the best version of YOUR selfideal camgirl. I find one of my favorite things about this line of work is how inclusive and diverse it can be... so maybe work on your own traits of being Flexible and Open-Minded.

But the scrutiny over body hair, makeup, fitness... some hairy ladies, BBWs, girl-next-door types, any combination thereof, etc make tons of money because there IS a market for that! (Just not you.) Don't overlook girls who cater to specific fetishes, or who cannot or do not want to meet mainstream societal beauty standards placed upon women. More power to 'em. Maybe they won't fit in at YOUR studio but that's fine.
Lies and propaganda from someone who has never been a can model. Look, I am all for getting doll up but something is off about this
Why? Because you're pushing this agenda that you must catered to every man's whim and become a living sex robot to success.Smiley (A)
WOW What a disgrace very very distasteful and disrespectful. Im BBW and ive been a successful cam girl for 8 years I also dont always shave and i bitch at assholes and im totally myself on cam and the guys love it. so obviously he doesnt know wtf he is talking about!!!

This was a great article! I love it and it was very informative. I'm back into camming after years of being away, and I feel so tired and unmotivated, so this was very helpful! I am a Teacher during the day, and webcam at night, so it's pretty tough to keep my eyes open and stay bright eyed and bushy tailed lol.....thanks again! awesome article!Smiley (H)Smiley (H)Smiley (K)Smiley (K)
I can barely get into the intangible LMAO I never shave my legs, rarely have to shave other areas because LOL those harsh unforgiving lights & camera??? Well *newsflash*, they're actually pretty forgiving if you're a pale red-head with blonde/red hair and know some tricks. Who taught me that? Another camgirl. I recently stopped wearing make-up and started using the hashtag no makeup and it works great for me!!!!
Clean-styled well maintained hair?? Have you heard of dry shampoo?
LMAO this article is so bad it's funny. Well toned physique? Baaahahahaah!
Sexy and diverse outfits? Are you kidding me??? You know how many times I've tried a well planned and bangin' lingerie outfit just to have the night be a total bust? Lingerie that "shows too much" will almost always result in a bad night for me. I *have to* resort to regular-degular girl-next-door clothes.
Maybe this middle aged man has more experience with bossing around pornstars or high-end escorts, but it's clear he doesn't have the best mindset for camgirls. I'm not in Romania so I can't go check this "physical studio" out in person, but it's my experience that virtual studios are essentially cyber-pimps. So thanks but no thanks, I won't be taking this advice.. or the pay cut.
I can't even keep myself from eye-rolling so hard at this body-shaming to get into the intangible qualities he claims camgirls must have..

I hardly wear make up on cam and never get my nails done. I think it is very disappointing to read an article like this. I know a lot of models who are successful who do not fit this mold including BBWs, alternative models, girl next door, and so much more. I laughed out loud when I read shaved to perfection. Hairy model can also achieve success in the business as well. Besides, I don't always feel like shaving my legs.
Told you Studio20 is trying to enforce their stupid rules on everyone in the industry and they don't belong here. It's only the studio admins writing here, never the models. They should be banned from this forum!

Ok, so not everyone has a ''well toned physique'' like I have, but the rest is common sense. I love taking care of my nails, hair and to have smooth legs, so other than that statement I agree with the rest.
We are really happy this article created so much interest and you all contribute to it with your comments. Hope you'll continue to bring your valuable opinion about qualities a camgirl should have.

It's good to clarify that this article was written by one of our top models working on LiveJasmin, IvyBluesky, and by mistake posted from our studio user. So no, is not a 41 YO man writing it (which does not mean he could not write a good article about this topic, after almost 18 years in this industry and working with thousands of models, most of them with excellent sales).

True, Ivy wrote just a version of how can one become a top model, her version and the one most of our models approach. We are 100% dedicated to this glamour approach, successfully as most of our models have income over $10000 a month and also won several major awards in the latest years, including AVN and XBIZ.

But we are 100% with you that diversity is what keep us running and there will always be a huge diversity of cam models doing a great job. So many niches (like you mentioned BBW, fetish, alternative, aso) will never fit in our approach and their work and results can always be better then ours. We respect each and every model for her own approach, if that is what's working for her.

The thing about articles is that they always give one side of a story, because if you've had every example in one article you would never read it. So you have to pick one view, and cram in one points that never paint all sides of the story.

When I started my hair was always done and my nails where always done. and it became EXHAUSTING and drain on me mentally to always keep up this illusion and appearance. The older I get the more I want to see my natural self in more places.

but when it comes to media, and being on film, live camera or photos, You have to make yourself more appealing to the camera which translate to an unrealistic view of a lot of things.

even when I would add-in some foundatation and powders and look at myself in the mirror I didn't recognize myself. Yes it sold, but being online and in this work and many entertainment performer works, you have to "dress the part" Whatever that is.

Sounds like tips from a pimp. Thank God I work from home and nobody tells me how should my hair, make-up and hair look like. Wtf!

You did a great job guys! I'm really happy to read this kind of articles. You help us to improve our model skills and it's awesome that you also share this not only with the models who work for you but also with all the girls who joined to this community to learn more about the industry of LiveCams.

I agree with some things that you said, for example, I Think that the discipline it's the primary key to the success! And girls we can learn a lot using this tips let's try it before attack the article ideas. Smiley ;)
If this article were the truth about being a successful cam model then hell, I'd be a top model. The more I try to work on my looks eg. makeup, nails, hair, the works and get more fit, the LESS I make. The harder I try to up my game on the big box cam sites, the LESS I earn. I've tried everything, I fucking cam with a DSLR, have the highest end gaming computer, use a green screen and have all the interactive toys. The more I try, the less I make.

When I first started as a cam girl in 2014, I had no toys, no lingerie at all and I was 20 pounds heavier with no muscle tone. I used a shitty webcam with low resolution and yet, I still made on average $50-$100 an hour within the first 2 hours. I didn't have to do more than 4 hours per shift to reach my daily goals.

What the fuck happened?

It's my own fault of course. I hate men who use cam sites. Plain and simple. I have a deep seated loathing for the men who are my customers. I absolutely find them disgusting pieces of shit who are weak and who have no idea how the world works. I cannot respect them at all nor find anything positive about them to help me tolerate my hatred. I suppose this would work for a domme type who could use this energy for that type of work and I have tried that as well but, even that is too saturated of a market now and takes a long time to build. I don't have the patience for that.

Good luck to all new cam models and keep on trucking those who are still working the industry, I give you the highest respect!
Emmasimmone,
Not all cam models need these tips and that just strange acting like every cam model should benefit from Studio 20's "coaching" Personally, I always have my makeup, hair, and nails done. I criticized this article because the motives behind it. That is allSmiley :)
I work as a Webcam Model and also owner of a small but growing studio there are 5 of us girls currently in my Studio including me. I am still pretty new at this, so I will defer to girls with more experience on much of this. From what I have learned so far in this line of work, the point about resilience seems rather key to me. I am an emotional lady, and I find that my mood changes and handling them is key for me. I have to disagree that a particular body shape is required for success in Webcamming. One of the 5 girls I have is very overweight, but she has a sort of what I would call an exotic beauty (her own words of self-description), has blonde hair and blue eyes even though she is Latin, great boobs and behind, so she does fine and she is totally amazing about nearly always staying cheerful. I myself am Barbie-thin as are 2 other girls in my Studio, which does us well but each girl is different. Body-shaming is not good. Also I am not convinced that the article is correct about extensive exercise being an absolute must -- in my own personal case my key is my diet as I am vegetarian and eat mountains of fresh fruits and vegetables every day and I do walk for exercise but not much more exercise. None of the other 4 girls in my Studio do much exercise, either. I agree with the article about flexibility and discipline. As to personality on line, many girls have success being bitches online so the article is not correct about this aspect necessarily. I myself am pleasant, but each girl has her own style so I suppose whatever sells is what works, right ? Many men are attracted to my hair so I personally keep it nicely maintained, but this doesnt mean a blow-dry every day -- once a week is fine for my blow-dries. But one of the girls in my Studio prefers to blow-dry her hair herself, every day before her work shift starts -- therefore, I really hesitate to make generalizations about hair maintenance and I feel this is a very personal decision for each Model, right ? From a Studio Owner viewpoint as well as being a Model myself, I say to the other Models it is their choice about their hair maintenance, hair removal, and hygiene. It is not my place to dictate this -- the other girls in my Studio are all personal friends so far some of whom I have known for years. As we take in more Models as we slowly grow the Studio, I plan to maintain this attitude. Because I am a Webcam Model myself and the other girls in the Studio are my personal friends as well, I call some of this stuff a matter of personal respect and personal choice. I feel the same way about clothing, too. One of the other girls in my Studio looks simply fab in a cheerleader outfit and also in a ballet-type outfit -- so this is HER choice not mine. Again, it is about mutual respect between Models. I feel that choice of dressing while working is quite individual. We exchange mutual advice between girls in my Studio, and we often even share some of each other's clothes because some of us have similar sizes. Jennifer xx
Fuck this article!
Amen to that!!!
So much pressure on the girls to look perfect...so if we all look the same, act the same etc,why would a member come to me and not to someone else? or for you it does not matter,as long as the money comes to your studio? One thing is common sense and another is struggling to achieve some impossible standards just because you dictate so!
I know that Studio 20 has some of the highest earning models in cam modeling, at least in Romania. I respect them because they prove that their business model is viable. However, the article may be fine from a studio perspective, not so much from an indie model's perspective. And let's be honest here - even if a female performer wrote it, it still reflects the perspective of the studio owners.
One thing bothered me a lot in this article: the idea that you must be perfect IN A CONVENTIONALLY ATTRACTIVE WAY, from all points of view, to earn decent money. It's very far from reality. BBW performers are big earners too. Hairy performers are a thing. EVERYTHING can be beautiful in the eyes of the right person/fetishist Smiley :) . The article has a very glamour approach (I almost could say a Jasmin.com approach), but there are so, SO many performers that make bank out there while putting on display their flaws.
I will totally admit that, for being successful on long-term, one needs to be disciplined, open-minded, and ambitious. Like in any other business, to be honest....
hyori I just read your response and I'm laughing so hard..you rule lady!
The title of this article is wrong. This should be called: "how to become a performer of Studio 20" or "How studio 20 has made their models succeed" or something like that... Studio 20 is big and successful... but hey! There are women from soooo many countries, not working for Studio 20 or working for more relaxed studios that you, Studio 20, only have a very small percentage of women in this huge market.. with all respect.Smiley (flower)
Hero
*yawn* From what I managed to read, it seems well written and perhaps useful to someone. I do agree with Camkitttie, the title needs revision.
What utter trash & bullshit. This is NOT helpful and goes against what WeCamgirls is supposed to be about. I'm incredibly disappointed, and as a bbw model, insulted.

Do better.
Personally...I find that guys like us better when we are ourselves. They like to see us be real because they can connect to us better and feel more comfortable chatting in our room. I think that is really what separates camsites from porn on the computer.... If they want perfection they can pick up a playboy or go to their favorite porn website. The article is basically telling us what our moms always told us growing up. Take a bath, brush your hair, etc. lol You don't think we know this?
Oh... and to any new girls reading that article...or thinking of becoming a cam model..... YOU BE YOU! There is a market for all shapes and sizes, ages, etc. Smiley (H)
1st question : why do studios need to communicate on wecamgirls ? Do they aim to recruit new models by here ? or what ?...
2nd question : do models who are working for studio 20 are allowed to talk freely about their jobs ? IvyBluesky - if u really wrote this why dont u personnally answer on this forum ?
demonloverr after all those comments I guess there's no way to defend this article... that's why I wouldn't expect a response.

Everyone has their own style when it comes to looks, camming, running a conversation... if camming required full glam to make money, I'd be out. Because it's not me. I do my nails, always have as natural as possible make up on but it's because I like it and it makes me feel more comfortable. Still I get requests to go on cam without any make up or record a video. I wear heels only when requested and tipped 😉 And I have those days when I cam wrapped in a blanket - sexy as fuck Smiley (yeah)

In my opinion, everyone should do what is comfortable for them. Guys will love it - if not, then there is huge variety of different cam models Smiley (cool)
I don't know who wrote the article, but personally I believe the ideas in it should have been expressed differently. It is perfectly fine for cam models and studios to have standards...it is NOT fine - to impose those standards to and for everyone else. It is quite clear that a woman have to be clean for herself and her own health - not just to be a model , but to be okay as a person - physically. Physical aspect it is important, it is NOT the MOST Important. What do you do with members preferences?
- How many BBW Models are successful? ManySmiley :)
- How many ladies that prefer not to shave their genital parts are successful? Many!
- How many models that prefer as less make up as possible are successful? Many!

To be noted: To be successful - doesn't equal with being socially exposed in the industrySmiley :)) I know models that make more money than you -- as owners and other models -- can imagineSmiley :) The only entities that know them, are the platforms that are working for, and - by case the studios that are working for. And that's it! Just because they refuse to be exposed - doesn't make them unsuccessful. Go ask them about what it means to be a model! And to be happy with a good bank accountSmiley :)

How about to talk more about optimizing member preferences and guide the "non - standard" models (in your opinion) to the categories that fit for them, help them, advice them, find their qualities and highlight them. You just pinned to the wall more than half of the models working in the cam industry and that is not normal. Do you really want to say that your studio have just the playboy cover models? Are you really saying that among the girls working in your studio there are none that are normal?

First rule - in any job - not being just a cam model - is do your best! Never do anything less than your best. And from there anyone can pick it up, throw a look in the mirror and say " hey, I can improve that". Is the personal change first - the desire to overcome yourself. Success comes with it - if you are determined enough to be a better person every day.

Yes I am a model that shaves, that works out , that takes care in every single step, that is self aware, that is resilient, ambitious, determined, focused, disciplined and you name it. But it comes with the person, and personal goals it doesn't come with "it is a MUST".

By the way - discipline means all what you describe above - but the first would be the 5 seconds rule of THINKING and being AWARE of your own emotions, in order to CONTROL them, and adapt them to any given situation.

From my person experience in the past 4 years as a model, members, will always pay more attention to a genuine person, not to a magazine cover. For a magazine cover they will look once or twice. For a genuine person, that indeed shows interest, works hard and visible improves or at least tries to improve every day - they will show much more.

Yes Quality - is indeed the most importantSmiley :) Not the quality of the Photoshop though - but the Quality - of a the person.
I don't think all of that it's true. You dont need to use make up or wear high heels... you don't need to be thin or fit.
Every costumer has diferent tastes and thats what make us all successfull. BBW girls have clients that I will never have , as i have clients that the girls with lots of make up will never have.
demonloverr after all those comments I guess there's no way to defend this article... that's why I wouldn't expect a response.

well LilPixy I was not expecting any response Smiley :)))))
But u did Smiley :)
And I fully agree with u
this is total crap, I can do pro hair and makeup on cam and get less users in my room then when I don't. I gained like 15 pounds and got more viewers and compliments then when I did when I scaled at 105 pounds. There is no physical standard to a cam model physique and how well she will do. Many ladies who are curvier then me and bbw do wayyy better then I ever will and did and I'm petite skinny with d implants at 125 pounds so this article is crap. Smiley :@
Well, first of all I don't see why there's so much controversy about this subject and so many peoplo talking in a negative way of it. From the way I see it, I think all opinions are respectable and right at their own way. For example: for a girl that is beggining in the webcam model industry, she could find on this article some tips that might be helpful, as some others that don't go welll with her personality and she doesn't consider they are relevant. Each of us finally find our own way to express in front of the cammera with our members. So keep the good things and leave the hate aside, because in the end we are not just webcam models, we are all woman and we have to respect each other. Peace, Aubrey. load of bs, im a hairy model on crutches, don't even get off my ass (cause I can't) and i still make my daily goal. It is all about confidence, doesn't matter if you sit in a trash bag. As long you are 100% confident you look hot in a trash bag.

Everyone is knowing so muuuuch about this whole camming, but it's just all about that every man has his own IDEAL. If you look like you are not an ideal girl, you are wasting your time online. Be cool, be "universal" for everybody and try to meet for everyone. I've been working as a language translator for 2 years for models in Hungary and I can tell I have met with lot of girls and within 6 seconds I can tell she will have a great career online or not, and yes, each category (BBW, granny, teen) has its own advantage .

Peace, AthoSz Smiley (H)
I am not agree with makeup. I dont like makeup at all. I dont use it. Always I am myself! So each person is different and we cant pretend to be a copy of someone else.

And about: "A well-toned physique" neither. There are tastes for everybody. Different fetishes.

For example, I am slim and I feel attracted by SSBHM and SSBBW.
I am normally only do phone services now but when I do get on cam... I get more attention when I am in just an old tank top and panties then I do when I am dressed to the max. I am an overweight 39 yr old woman who is far from being toned.. in fact I have a weird body shape... but if you have confidence and don't try to over sell your self...they want to see and know more. Could I make more money if I followed them rules.... I am sure I could... but I am more then happy with the little bit I do make... I work FAR less hrs with a ton more pay then my old job.. and I get to sit home all day .....
and I don't have to worry about a chipped nail or smudged makeup while I am doing it.

I obvi don't need to further disgrace this shit content further, but will contribute this. I've had my best regs REQUEST that I one time just show up in jeans and a tee and not get glam or cosplayed at as I usually prefer. No makeup? I thought so, as well. But! My viewers prefer me without it. Actually, they love when I wake up and hop on naturally. So. From my stance. There you have it.
Interesting how many opinions this article raised. I think some of the girls here find it offensive because they feel like they don't mark the boxes on what this article says camgirls should be like. I say, to each their own ladies, don't get offended because a model wrote an article and you just don't find yourself in there. There's planty of room for everybody, and I personally think some girls get offended waaaay to easily...If you get offended just as easy on cam, then wow Smiley :)) There are different point of views. #StopBeingOffendedAboutEverythingYouDisagreeWith

I just now read this, i see a lot of girls didnt like it, theres a market out there for all walks of life YES, but it actually inspired me to stick to my personal goals and work on them harder Smiley (cool)Smiley (dance)Smiley (nerd)Smiley ;)Smiley xDSmiley (dance)
I like this article and I agree.
I know many people have lots of fetiches and camming has many segments, but I agree that most users look for glamour and dreams, sorry, but that's the reality. The best models sell this.
You may be successful in other segments in camming, but we know this it's more difficult.
But I think it's worthless if the model doesn't have charisma and bored on cam.
Typical directing from this very misogynist community and one of the many reasons I have quit camming after ten years of pure garbage🖕🏼
i disagree--- being well kep[t- looking it is 1 thing but u can not brush ur teeth and fart amnd be gross as long they dont know and its even funny
